Inmarsat's forthcoming FleetPhone service is a low-cost fixed phone service ideal for use on smaller vessels - potentially as an economical solution for crew calling. The service is expected to be available soon.

Terminal

The FleetPhone solution will consist of below-decks equipment with an integrated voice handset, which is connected to an omni-directional antenna.

Coverage

The service will initially be available in the South China Sea and Indian Ocean Region. It will ultimately be offered on a global basis.

Launching in November 2007, Fleet Broadband is the first maritime communications service to provide cost-effective broadband data and voice, simultaneously, through a compact antenna on a global basis.

Will offer Standard IP up to 284kbps and Streaming IP up to 128kbps. Antenna 25cm in diameter.

Will offer Standard IP up to 432kbps and Streaming IP up to 256kbps. Antenna 50 cm in diameter. Both terminals are designed specifically for the marine environment and also support voice, fax and SMS.

Voice, fax, and data communications for both ocean-going and coastal vessels, delivered via a range of antenna sizes to suit different types of vessel.

Make phone calls, as well as access email and the internet using Mobile ISDN, or stay online all the time with the Mobile Packet Data Service (MPDS), where you only pay for the data sent and received.
